Food Intolerance Testing is currently unavailable at Roundwood Pharmacy.
The interaction between our bodies and the foods we eat is a complex process.
Food intolerance is your body’s abnormal reaction to certain foods. Many people with food intolerance(s) experience more than one symptom. These can include headaches, gastrointestinal, skin and respiratory reactions. It can often be responsible for the complex condition Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
The fact that the consumption of certain foods is responsible for the cause of these symptoms is often overlooked or ignored.
Although difficult to put an exact figure on it, the incidence of food intolerance is believed to be significant. Just look at the ever expanding ‘free-from’ food sections in our supermarkets as evidence of this.
The test we use is manufactured by Cambridge Nutritional Sciences in Scotland. It is approved by the EU and Irish health authorities.
It works by detecting antibodies to specific foods in a small sample of the individual’s blood (approx. one drop).
The foods tested include cow’s milk, grains, meats, fish, vegetables, pulses, yeast and fruits.
Please note we are not taking bookings for food intolerance testing.
The test is performed by a pharmacist in our private consultation room. It can take up to an hour to perform the test, to interpret the results and to discuss the results with you. For this reason an appointment for a test should be booked in advance.
